Our club was very privileged recently to be able to hear from several members of the Women Tech Council of Utah. Around 15 women from the WTC attended this luncheon to provide our club members with advice about working in the business world, especially in technology professions. What a GREAT opportunity!
We first heard from Carine Clark, who is the Senior Vice President of Marketing at Symantec. She began by explaining how important mentors can be as we begin our careers. She also told us not to be afraid to be different. Although it can be intimidating to stand out, we all have value to offer and shouldn’t be afraid to share it! Get involved in whatever way you can, and find something that drives you to be successful. Carine told us this is the best way to prepare for a successful career. Her ending remarks were this: “Don’t let fear determine your fate.”
We then had a delicious lunch (catered by Blue Lemon) where we were able to be mentored by the impressive women of the Women Tech Council and hear about their experiences. It was an AMAZING opportunity to speak with these remarkable women on such a personal level. I believe everyone who attended learned something new and walked away from the event inspired! I know I did!
At the conclusion of lunch, we heard from Amy Rees Anderson, Managing Partner at REES Capital. She shared her own personal experience of how she got to where she is today. Her story is inspiring, and she wanted us to know that no matter who we are, we can do anything we want. “The worst that can happen if you mess up is that you just try something new!” were her words. Things will always keep improving.
A special thanks to the WTC of Utah for sponsoring this event and to all the women who came out for it. Thanks to Blue Lemon for the delicious lunch. And thank you to Rosie Liddle for helping make this event happen!
